I talked to my mortgage guy earlier this week, and he seems to think there is no problem getting a loan for a house upwards of $300,000. But, even though I have owned quite a few houses here and in Atlanta, I have never paid that much for a place. And I am 62 years old! Is it silly to commit myself like that at this age? Can I count on my income for the next four years at least?
I was all set to go to New Castle tomorrow and put an offer down on the house I really like, but Hurricane Irene is headed to Delaware, so I put off my trip. Tim Scully, my real estate guy, says there are a few new homes on the market as well that I might want to take a look at. So I think that I should just sit tight for another week. Maybe the storm will do damage to the house I like--it is in the flood plane.
So tomorrow I can get more of my packing done. Better all around, actually.
